If you’re a fan of Korean music, Waterbomb is likely one of the most famous festivals among foreigners, and it’s something I highly recommend experiencing! This fantastic and well-organized festival is open to international attendees, but there are some essential tips to keep in mind to make the most of your visit.

Here’s everything you need to know:

1. Buying Tickets

Tickets are available on the official website, and the earlier you buy them, the cheaper they’ll be. Act quickly to secure your spot! Make sure to purchase tickets specifically for global visitors and only buy tickets for yourself an friends. You’ll need to show your ID at the entrance, so if a Korean friend buys your ticket but doesn’t attend, you might face issues getting in.

2. Prepare for the Heat

June in Korea is hot and humid. Dress accordingly and remember that there’s limited shade near the stage. Apply sunscreen generously and frequently to avoid painful sunburns.

3. Bring Extra Clothes

While participating in the water battles is a blast, being wet all day can get chilly in the evening. Pack a change of clothes to stay comfortable and enjoy the entire event.

4. Tribunes are for Relaxing

The tribunes are designated areas for resting, eating, and drinking. It’s customary to leave your water gun there and avoid shooting up at the tribune area. Respect the rules and keep the vibe positive.

5. No Need to Camp at the Stage

Unlike some festivals, camping at the stage for your favorite artist isn’t common. People are there to have fun, so take breaks, grab a bite, and head to the stage before your favorite artist performs.

6. Drink Responsibly

Alcohol is allowed, but Koreans are mindful not to overindulge. Avoid getting overly intoxicated and focus on being respectful and enjoying the atmosphere.

7. Pre-Order Your Food

You must pre-order food. Do it! If you don’t, you’ll likely go hungry, and that’s no way to enjoy the festival.

8. Pack a Festival Essentials Bag

Bring a bag with necessities like band-aids, tissues (toilets run out of paper fast), your ID, medications, and anything else you might need for a long day.

9. Take Breaks

Especially if you plan to attend all three days and stay active the entire time, schedule long breaks at the tribunes. Overexertion can ruin the fun, so pace yourself to enjoy everything the festival has to offer.

10. Buy Transparent Goggles

Invest in transparent goggles to prevent water from getting into your eyes, which can be very painful. Otherwise, you might find yourself squinting the entire time, which can dampen the fun. Goggles can be purchased at the venue—arrive early to grab a pair at the stadium opening.

11. Respect Water Fight Etiquette

You can start water fights with locals anytime, but always aim below the shoulders. Never spray above shoulder level, and make sure the person is clearly willing to participate. You can test the waters with a gentle spray, but always remain respectful. Security is present throughout the venue to enforce rules, so stick to social norms.
