We’ve all heard the same advice a million times: drink more water, get enough sleep, exercise daily, eat healthy. Groundbreaking, right? But let’s be honest—sometimes that’s just not enough. What we really need are practical, everyday hacks that help us stay consistent, even during stressful times, while keeping it fun and budget-friendly. Here are a few tips that have truly worked for me and can make a real difference in your glow-up journey (without requiring a second mortgage).
1. Always Have Well-Groomed Nails - in Record Time
Having neat, well-maintained nails makes a huge difference in how put-together you look. However, going to a nail salon regularly is expensive and time-consuming (not to mention the risk of having to make awkward small talk for an hour). My solution: Builder in a Bottle! This all-in-one gel formula is the quickest and most effective way to get beautiful nails at home. Get it in clear, so even when your nails grow out, it’s not noticeable. You’ll only need to spend about 1-2 hours per month. If you want color, you can simply apply gel polish on top. Absolute game changer!
2. Use Cuticle Oil Every Day
This goes hand in hand with the previous tip. Applying cuticle oil daily makes your nails look 100x more polished and healthy. Plus, it keeps your skin hydrated and makes your next manicure easier. Think of it as your nails' daily vitamin—except this one actually works and won’t end up forgotten at the back of your cupboard.
3. Save Calories & Time with a Meal Plan
Planning your meals can save you money, time, and unnecessary stress. I use the app Choosy to plan my dinners. You can input portion sizes, dietary preferences, budget, and intolerances, and it generates a free one-week meal plan with an auto-generated shopping list (including exact quantities). Since using it, I’ve reduced my grocery expenses by about 20% while keeping my calorie intake in check. Plus, I’ve finally learned how to cook properly and waste less food.
4. Prioritize Your Health - Beyond the Basics
While everyone says, "Take care of your health," people often overlook crucial aspects like liver, stomach, gut health, and vitamin/mineral levels. If you want better skin, shinier hair, more energy, and a better mood, you need to take action.
If you often feel tired and your skin won’t improve despite good skincare, get bloodwork done and check your inflammation markers.
Your vitamin D3 is in the “normal range,” but still on the lower end? Try getting to the upper range (unless medically advised otherwise) and feel the difference.
Walk a lot? Ensure your magnesium levels are optimal.
Have mild inflammation that seems harmless? Don’t ignore it—addressing it early prevents future health issues. No one wants to look back and think, "Ah yes, I wish I had taken those vague warning signs seriously instead of assuming my body was just being dramatic."
5. Level Up Your Knowledge with Minimal Effort
An internal glow-up is just as important as an external one. But let’s be real—we don’t always have time for deep dives into books or online courses. That's why i love using Short, free knowledge-boosting apps.
Blinkist: Summarizes books into 20-minute audio episodes.
Yuno: Provides 10-minute history lessons in podcast form.
I listen to one episode per day on my commute, and just like that, I’m constantly learning new things. It’s fun, helps boost confidence, and makes conversations more interesting. Plus, nothing quite says "I have my life together" like casually dropping historical, science, political, etc. facts in everyday conversation.
6. Work Out - But Learn the Right Way
Exercising without proper form or structure can be frustrating and ineffective. Learn how to do exercises correctly to enjoy movement and see real progress. If you want more details, click HERE to read more about it! And if you’re already a gym-goer who spends 70% of the time "resting" while scrolling on your phone, maybe this is your wake-up call.
7. Get to Know Yourself Better
It took me 28 years to realize I have naturally curly hair. Imagine how much money I wasted on the wrong hair products... The better you understand your hair type, skin type, and body, the less money you’ll waste on unnecessary products.
My favorite YouTube channels for this are Dear Peachie & Beauty Within. They offer practical tests and tips to help you understand your own unique features better.
8. Exfoliate - The Secret to Silky Smooth Skin
Peeling isn’t just for your face—your body deserves some love too! Depending on your skin type, you can exfoliate every two days with a gentle physical scrub or use a daily chemical exfoliant (AHA/BHA) in a body lotion. And trust me, it’s worth it. My routine: Shower gel → exfoliation → shaving. Since getting laser hair removal, I only shave every two weeks, yet my skin stays butter-soft, free of ingrown hairs, and dark spots fade faster. Just don’t go overboard, be gentle and listen to your skin!
